It was a reunion of sorts as Oklahoma's Colourmusic and England's British Sea Power joined forces for the first time since sharing the bill during the inaugural Norman Music Festival in Norman, OK.  The Loft provided a much more intimate feel to the wide open stage on Main Street in Norman, but the energy by both bands were as high as ever.

35 Conferette @ Denton, TX

Not being able to go to South By Southwest, SXSW for most, would have been dreadfully painful had it not been for Denton's 35 Conferette, formerly NX35 or North By 35.  This four-day event featured many of the same artists that SXSW would be hosting but 35 was much more cost effective and convenient for many who could not afford the lodging and expenditures in Austin.  Having not been to NX35, I was very excited and somewhat skeptical of something of this magnitude occurring in Denton, TX; I don't mean this in a bad way, I was simply curious to see how it would play out and come together.

Revisited: The Walkmen / The Head and the Heart / Seryn @ Granada Theater

I know this show is just a month old but something's gotta be said about it.  Starting with Denton's own Seryn, followed by Sub Pop's recently acquired the Head and the Heart, and ending with the Walkmen, this show was stacked from start to finish.  Seryn had, in my own opinion, the best performance of the night.  They were powerful and elegant at the same time.  Though many had come for the Walkmen, Seryn either had everybody talking about their set or they were instant fans.  The Head and the Heart might not have kept the energy level up but they did provide a great set of melodic music.  I was a big fan of both vocalists, Josiah Johnson and Jonathan Russell, but I think I preferred Russell's in the end.  As the for the Walkmen, they could have played anything that night the crowd would have gone crazy.  Still riding the highs of Lisbon, the band marched into Granada Theater with loads of confidence and performed a genuinely great set; though not as electric as I've seen them before (Central Park Summerstage), it was still better than most.  I was pleased to finally hear the newer material played and pleased overall with their performance.  It was a solid night of music.  Videos of the performance are below:
